Dear MAWSPA Members, Partners, and Visitors,

It is my great honor to serve as President of the Malaysian Association of Wellness & Spa (MAWSPA) for the 2023–2025 term. Together with our dedicated Board Members, I am committed to strengthening our association, addressing industry challenges, and creating new opportunities for growth both locally and internationally.

First, I extend my sincere appreciation to our Past President, Dr. Baskaran Kosthi, for his remarkable leadership and continued guidance. I also pay tribute to the vision and tireless efforts of our founding members — Puan Faridah Fadzil, Ibu Ayu Mudiasih, Mr. CP Saw, Madam Stella Cheah, and Ms. Molly Goh — whose dedication built the strong foundation we stand on today.

Rising Stronger After COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted our industry, forcing many operators to close and leaving countless employees without income. Today, as Malaysia recovers, the wellness and spa sector must be recognized as an important contributor to tourism, health, and lifestyle.

One urgent issue we face is the shortage of trained therapists. MAWSPA strongly urges the Government — particularly MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture) and KESUMA (Ministry of Human Resources) — to reopen and expand the quota for foreign workers in the wellness and spa sector. Without this, many businesses cannot meet demand, and the recovery of our industry will be slowed. We must ensure a balanced, regulated framework that safeguards standards while meeting workforce needs.

Membership, Education & Advocacy

Our priorities remain clear:

  • Membership as our foundation — growth, engagement, and retention strengthen our voice.

  • Education as our energy — continuous training, certification, and career development secure our future talent pool.

  • Advocacy as our power — by working with ministries, tourism bodies, and global partners, we raise standards and enhance Malaysia’s reputation in wellness tourism.

Expanding Our International Footprint

MAWSPA is also stepping forward to represent Malaysia on the international stage. Over the next two years, we aim to build stronger collaborations with associations and partners in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and beyond. By connecting with our regional neighbors, we create opportunities for knowledge-sharing, joint promotions, study tours, and cross-border business development.

Malaysia is well positioned to be a hub for wellness tourism, and through MAWSPA, we will continue to push for recognition, visibility, and credibility — ensuring our members benefit from both domestic and international growth.

A Call to Action

Our association is only as strong as the commitment of its members. I invite each of you to contribute actively — join committees, attend events, share your ideas, and take part in leadership opportunities. Together, we can rebrand and uplift the wellness and spa industry into one that offers dignity, career prospects, and international recognition.

With unity, resilience, and innovation, I am confident MAWSPA will emerge stronger than ever.

Warm regards,
Jet Lim
President, MAWSPA (2023–2025)
